When Karl is at his best

Grand Palais was replaced with an all white room when Chanel held its haute Couture show for spring 2009. All the dresses were either in white or in black, the true colors of Chanel. An all white collection sounds a bit like an exercise in clinical minimalism, but in a very nice and elegant way, without any one thinking of dentist clinic. Actually it was very refreshing and like a breeze of spring. Just what we need.
Very simple silhouettes started the show with a lot of A-shaped dresses, very sixties, but very clean and beautiful. Jackie O' would have been proud. Perhaps we will soon se Michelle Obama in one of these outfits. I wouldn't be surprised. Together with every outfit came an outstanding hair bands with white flowers in organza and cellophane. I really liked this collection. But I always like Chanel's couture show, because it's so worked trough and always catches the spirit of Chanel.

Made in China

As always an Armani collection is one of a kind. The thing Armani can is that he has his own style and touch that you always can recognize. The cuts and shapes are always made in the same Armani theme, but the thing he does, is that it never gets boring. It's always very elegant and very sophisticated. And the couture spring 2009 was certainly no exception. The fabrics are carefully selected out, so that all the dresses nestle closely to the body, which makes a beautiful body shapes to every woman who will wear these dresses, skirts and jackets. That's what Armani can. And what he collection after collection achieves. He is one of the few high fashion designers that can make such beautiful clothes that would look great on any type of woman.
For his 2009 couture collection Armani went to China to get his inspiration as if we were in Shanghai in the thirties. Pagoda-shaped shoulders on the jackets, the lacquer red color and Chinese-cabinet patterns. As so many times before these silhouettes will look fantastic on the red carpet at the Academy Awards or something like it. No doubt that this collection will be a success.

The Haute Couture is here!

I waited all night yesterday for the upload of the Dior Coture show. But all the websites, including Dior's, didn't upload, until this morning. But now there are here! Hurrah! As I watched the pictures of the dress I right away started thinking about the Flemish painters of the Renaissance. Vermer, and Rembrandt woke up from the dead. As always the colors, cuts and shapes where amazing. John Galliano do know how to drape a dress and he always shows it. Stunning as always.

Only John can do it, but is it good?

It is really only John Galliano who seriously can pull this of, but some times I still think - is this good? I am a huge fan of his way to deal with fashion. He is truly one of the most creative in the industry. But then again, every one can have an off-day. This is not good. You can do it better John. This is just ugly. There is nothing more to say. Red light district can now be fashionable. Great...

Michelle Obama and Isabel Toledo

I was voting for Oscar de la Renta for the man dressing Michelle Obama when Barack Obama sworn his oath. But I was wrong. She worn a dress and jacket by the Cuban-born American fashion designer Isabel Toledo. I will bring a larger post about her later. But here is a picture of her, and a picture of Michelle Obama.

Not the Chanel we adore

I must say that I think it's time that Karl and Chanel move on. I think that when Karl Lagerfeld wants to do something new he just makes something ugly. Like this little dress here. What's with that?! I mean the type of woman that would actually wear that dress would never wear Chanel, because she probably is to connected to mother earth and the spirits around us.... And then let take a look at the shoes. WFT?! Plastic like that is just a no-go on a high fashion runway.

The Eiffel Tower bag!

My good friend Amilie loves any thing French, and especially every thing Parisian! So you can only imagine how she reacted when she saw the Eiffel Tower bag Carrie had with her in Sex and the City the movie. It any body knows where this bag can be bought please let me know! I must say that it is rather chic.

hand made class

I just need to add something to my previous post about the Dries van Noten spring 2009. This jacket here is hand made. It took four people four weeks to sew on every little pearl on this beautiful silver jacket. I believe this must be a jacket only to order.

The Lanvin zipper

One of the many things I think is so cool about Lanvin are the out standing zippers. The very elegant and sophisticated dresses are getting a very rough look with the zippers in the back. An other funny side to it is that I went to tailor school, and I know how difficult it can be to sew in a zipper perfectly, so this is a nice solution to that problem.

The Love for Lanvin

Oh my Lord! Alber Elbaz is just amazing! I can't say it enough. He truly knows the spirit of this old french label, and knows the charms of Lanvin's signature. The necklaces were laced together with velvet like pieces from your grandmother's jewelry box. This small pree-fall collection makes me think of a Parisian café with ladies smoking cigarettes and sipping Dom Perignon like it was still the 1920's with a twist of urban coolness. I'm so happy that there's people like Alber Elbaz who really just never disappoint.

Lightness

Dries Van Noten work it! The fantastic thing about this great fashion house it that it's so wearable and at the same time so beautiful. I would really like to have this hole collection more or less, and that's a rare feeling. It's so luxurious with a down to earth feeling to it. The best materials and fabrics, the most beautiful colors and the hole collection had a lightness to it that it just lovely. Dries Van Noten makes Belgium proud.

The Balenciaga gorilla?!

"What are You wearing?" "I'm a gorilla wearing designer clothes". WTF! I really like Balenciaga, but sometimes Nicolas Ghesquiere is just to weird. I mean look at it. Can you imagine any one thinking "I think I'm gonna put on my gorilla today"? I'm thinking... Not. But it looks funny!

Haute couture

I'm really looking forward to the end of January. Of cause because the haute couture will be shown in Paris from the 26th to 28th. On the 26th my man John Galliano will take it away with Dior. I'm very exited about that show! The same day will Armani Privé rock on. The 27th is a day with Chanel. Probably at Grand Palais as usual. Also Lacroix and Givenchy is showing their couture that day. On the last day the 28th Ellie Saab, Jean Paul and Valentino will show what they can do for us this summer. It's going to be great! The photo is from Dior's couture collection spring/summer 2004.

Models of crap # 3

I couldn't help but smile when I read that Agyness Deyn has been voted 'most annoying' person of 2008 by BBC. Now I love BBC. Because that's exactly what she is, really annoying. And by that I don't mean annoyingly beautiful, but really just the the meaning of the word - annoying! So many think she's fantastic and so renewing. But I'm just so tired of her. Every time I see a picture of her, I just think 'not again. zzzzz....' I mean look at her. It's so tiring. I hope all the fuzz about her soon comes to an end. She and Henry Holland can have their own little party, fine by me, just as long that I don't have to look at her jumble of colors and everlasting happiness. For christ sake.

Hollywood glamour - WTF?!

It's so Hollywood, so red carpet like, so glossy and so glamourous. This is clothes that can only make it on the red carpet, but then again when you think about, could one ever imagine any of the Hollywood queens and princesses wear this at the Oscar's or Golden Globe show? I don't think so... I think this spring/summer 2009 collection look like something you could see in a Miss Universe contest held in Poland or so. That's bad..
